Goal Setting (Part One)

Goal Setting (Part One)

One of the important ingredients for success in life is Goal Setting. What are Goals? Goals are your aims, focus, plans, targets, desires, dreams, visions, and passions. Generally, they are the things you want to achieve in a given period of time.

Why it is important to set Goals

  1. Goal setting helps you to have a plan – “Failing to plan is planning to fail.” In order to succeed, you need a clear road map that will guide you on the best possible route to follow in achieving your goal. Joseph appeared before Pharaoh for one reason: to interpret his dreams. He did this job very well. However, he did not stop there. He knew that in order to prevent Pharaoh’s dreams from fading away and to ensure that they became reality, a proper and detailed plan of action was required.
  2. Setting goals helps you to be focused in life – You concentrate your energy rather than dissipate them everywhere. Goals give you a direction to aspire to. In 1 Cor. 9:25ff, Apostle Paul said ‘I am not running aimlessly;’ in other words, he was not shadow boxing. Because you do not have time to do everything in this world, your goals keep you firm and focused to a particular course.
  3. Without goals, success cannot be measured – Set goals are yardsticks to measure your achievements.
  4. Goals gives you the desired endurance to keep going. When the going gets tough, your set goals help you to. In Hebrews 12:2, Jesus endured the cross for the JOY THAT WAS SET BEFORE him. The possibility of realising your goals gives you the tenacity to press on.
