After all said and done in life, one of the factors that can make for success in life is God’s MERCY. Romans 9:16 says, “So then it is not of him who wills, nor of him who runs, but of God who shows mercy.” Mercy can be the difference between two people and establishments. When a person receives mercy, he or she looks like the best person around. Mercy is a PEROGATIVE and an ATTRIBUTE of God. I dare say MERCY is a MYSTERY.
Let me show you some of the ways the bible qualifies and describes God’s MERCY:
- God’s mercy is GREAT – The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy (Psalm 145:8).
- God’s mercy is RICH – But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ – by grace you have been saved (Eph. 2:4-5).
- God’s mercy is ABUNDANT – Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead (1 Pet. 1:3).
- God’s mercy is UNFAILING – Through the LORD’s mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not (Lamentations 3:22).
Friends, MERCY does so many things in our lives.
- Mercy SAVES! We often talk so much about how we are saved by grace. But I discovered from scriptures that God’s mercy is what extends his grace to us. Apostle Paul made us to understand that: “For we ourselves were also once foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving various lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful and hating one another. But when the kindness and the love of God our Saviour toward man appeared, not by works of righteousness which we have done, BUT ACCORDING TO HIS MERCY HE SAVED US, through the washing of regeneration and renewing of the Holy Spirit” (Titus 3:3-5 NKJV). If you are saved today, you have simply received mercy.
- Mercy Heals! – Bartimaeus the Blind shouted, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” (Mark 10:46). He received his sight.
- Mercy Delivers and Sets free! – The Mad man of Gadarenes in Mark 5 received mercy. See the final remarks of Jesus to him – “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and HOW HE HAS HAD MERCY ON YOU” (Mark 5:19).
- Mercy forgives! – The tax collector, a chronic sinner and bribe taker received forgiveness by the mercy of the LORD. ‘But the tax collector stood at a distance. He would not even look up to heaven, but beat his breast and said, ‘God, have mercy on me, a sinner’ (Luke 18:13)
Today I pray for you that out of the GREATNESS, RICHNESS, ABUNDANCE AND UNFAILING nature of God’s mercy, you will receive mercy. God will have mercy on you and all that you do in the name of the LORD Jesus. Amen. The interesting thing is that EVERYONE WHO CRIED FOR MERCY in scriptures got mercy. Why don’t you make it your prayer today, HAVE MERCY ON ME OH LORD, and you will receive MERCY.
Shalom and have a mercy-filled day.
