One of the assurances we have in scriptures is that God takes care of his children. When you go through trying times, you have nothing to fear because God will take care of you. The phrase ‘God will take care of you’ is the title of a popular Christian hymn written by a couple, Walter Stillman Martin (1862-1935) and his wife, Civilla (1866-1948). They were both Baptist ministers and songwriters. The Martins wrote a number of hymns, some of which became quite well known. “God Will Take Care of You” is a classic one. “His Eye Is on the Sparrow” is another popular one. Civilla wrote the words, and Walter set her words to music.
The story behind “God Will Take Care of You” is especially interesting. Walter had a preaching engagement, but was considering cancelling to stay home with Civilla, who was sick. However, their nine-year-old son said, “Father, don’t you think that if God wants you to preach today, he will take care of mother while you are away?” Challenged by his son’s faith, Walter went to his preaching engagement, leaving his wife well-being to God.
By the time Walter returned, Civilla was much improved. Furthermore, inspired by their son’s faith, she had penned the words to this song. Walter sat down at the keyboard, and in short order created the music to go with the words. It was first published in 1905 and it became one of the best-loved hymns of the 20th century. Below is the lyrics:
GOD WILL TAKE CARE OF YOU
Be not dismayed whate’er betide
God will take care of you
Beneath His wings of love abide
God will take care of you
God will take care of you
Through every day, o’er all the way
He will take care of you
God will take care of you
No matter what may be the test
God will take care of you
Lean weary one upon His breast
God will take care of you
God will take care of you
Through every day, o’er all the way
He will take care of you
God will take care of you
Friends, while we are going through this uncharted and unprecedented times in our existence, I want you to KNOW that God will take care of you. Caring for us is one of his assured promises: Apostle Peter says in 1 Peter 5:7, “Casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you.” The Living Bible translation puts it this way: “Let him have all your worries and cares, for he is always thinking about you and watching everything that concerns you.”
Therefore, RELAX your mind, there’s no need to panic, no need to worry. God’s watching over you. Nothing shall by any means hurt you.
Shalom and have a fabulous day.
